The Western Buddhist Review writes with the sad news of the death of Pāli scholar Kenneth Roy Norman, born in 1925, and the same age as Sangharakshita. His translations of early Buddhist texts in verse are more scholarly than poetic, but allow modern Western Buddhists to get close to the word of the Buddha.

Two days ago I attended the public ordination of 16 women at Adhisthana. When Bhante chose the ‘miracle’ design of the stupa for Dhardo Rimpoche at Tiratanaloka, he said it was because the greatest miracle was Going for Refuge; it seemed especially miraculous to be having public ordinations, given the Covid 19 restrictions, with around 500 people joining the live zoom. The Western Buddhist Review is the scholarly journal of the Triratna Buddhist Order and community. Volume 1 was published in 1994, and it has appeared periodically since then. Now, under the editorship of Dhivan, Silavadin and Matt Drage, the team are ready to launch volume 7, with a new website which will provide an exciting point of reference for scholarly and philosophical activities in the Triratna community.
