This week we’re giving away the eBook edition of A Guide to the Bodhisattvas by Vessantara. Bodhisattvas, or ‘Enlightenment Beings’, are dedicated to one thing: working endlessly in the service of living beings, helping them to achieve Enlightenment. This book introduces a panoply of archetypal bodhisattvas from the Buddhist tradition and their visualization practices, including Avalokiteśvara, Mañjuśrī, Vajrapāṇi, Green Tārā and White Tārā.

In an interview in 2012, Vessantara commented:

“[One] main use of visualization practices is that they help us see clearly

This week's eBook give away - The Body

The high streets are waking from their slumber, and we’re anticipating further easing of the lockdown. There are many questions; is it safe, when will travel be possible, when can I spend time with friends and loved ones in person again, what will happen with work and the economy?

Like many others I’ve also been involved in conversations about race and the growing anti-racism movement. I’ve been thinking about my own place and what I can do, exploring my conditioning, and listening...

June book sale at Windhorse Publications

By dhammamegha on Mon, 1 Jun, 2020 - 12:59

Lockdown rules are changing for some of us. So perhaps there’s not quite so much staying at home involved this month’s Stay at Home Sale. We have chosen a range of books to offer resources and inspiration in this transition time.

To continue the ‘For the Earth’ theme of Buddhist Action Month, we’ve got what I think is the only one of our books to be written by a vet. Bodhipaksa’s Vegetarianism: A Buddhist View, is reduced...

This week we’re giving away The Buddha on Wall Street by Vaddhaka in our Free the Dharma Campaign. You can download it here until the 11th of May.

The lockdown is having a huge impact on economies at all levels – households, businesses, countries. The future is uncertain. While it has does economic damage, it also relieves the pressures on the environment, and perhaps to some of us too.

There is no better guide to thinking through what Buddhism can offer to our common and economic life than this...

Week 2 of free eBooks with ‘Free the Dharma'

For this week’s eBook give away we’ve chosen Vajragupta’s Sailing the Worldly Winds. The Buddha talked about being blown about by circumstances beyond our control, and described our usual and often ineffective strategies to try to shore ourselves up. He called these the Worldly Winds.

Vajragupta explores these patterns of hanging on and being blown about. The key to a happier and wiser response, he says, is to acknowledge the fact of what is happening, and actively choose how...

Coming soon: 'Uncontrived Mindfulness' by Vajradevi

By Windhorse Publi... on Fri, 13 Mar, 2020 - 12:44

In December Windhorse Publications announced the first six books we’ll be publishing in 2020, and we’re now delighted to announce the seventh, due for release in October: Uncontrived Mindfulness: ending suffering through attention, curiosity and wisdom by respected meditation teacher, Vajradevi.

The Buddha emphasized that happiness is found through understanding the mind rather than getting caught up in what we experience through the senses. This simple yet radical shift from our usual focus is key to a relaxed and natural – uncontrived – way of observing the...

Announcing our new books for 2020

By Windhorse Publi... on Thu, 5 Dec, 2019 - 16:39

We’re thrilled to announce the first six of the new books we’ll be publishing in 2020. Three of them are now available for sponsorship.
Why sponsor a book?
Publishing in the 21st century is all about adapting to challenging conditions, with lower profits from online sales and increased competition from digital formats. At Windhorse Publications we are meeting this challenge, but we increasingly need start-up funding for a book’s production and marketing. You can help us by choosing to sponsor...

By Windhorse Publi... on Mon, 2 Dec, 2019 - 13:42

Gayathri achieved a lot in only four days. Her first task was to liaise with publishing director, Priyananda, to gather information about on-demand printing. This included arranging phone interviews...
