We are very pleased to announce the release of Vajradevi’s first book, Uncontrived Mindfulness: Ending Suffering through Attention, Curiosity and Wisdom.
The Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta is a foundational text in the Buddhist tradition, outlining a path of increasing awareness and wisdom. Over many years, Vajradevi has drawn on a range of approaches to the practice of satipaṭṭhāna: within Triratna as well as with U Tejaniya in the Burmese meditation tradition and some teachers of the Insight Meditation Society. What she offers us in this book brings together the best of these approaches in a gentle but powerful practice that supports increasing awareness and insight.
Often, satipaṭṭhāna is taught as a progressive guide to four kinds of objects or foundations of mindfulness: body, tone, mental states and dharmas or teachings. Vajradevi offers a set of exercises, reflections and meditations that allow us to start with the wisdom perspective; to develop stable, easeful awareness of all experience in the light of wisdom. The result is an insightful practice.
This book is beautifully and accessibly written. It includes explanations, examples and exercises and is also accompanied by eight audio meditations. These progressive meditations support the growth of awareness and guide us into being able to hold moment-by-moment experience in awareness with wisdom. You can access the meditations here.
This is a book for everyone who is interested in the Buddhist path. If you’re just starting out, you’ll find the guides to waking up into awareness invaluable. If you have been practising for a long time, you’ll enjoy the subtle and easeful way you’ll be led into a wisdom perspective.
The book is now available in paperback or eBook format from our website. You can ask your nearest bookshop in the UK or mainland Europe to order it for you. It will be released in the USA on June 8.
May Uncontrived Mindfulness help you to wake up into awareness and find the wisdom that comes with knowing the mind.
