The Great Gathering: Dancing with Pure Presence 2022

Tue, 27 Sep, 2022 - 00:00

In June 2022, Order Members and Mitras Training For Ordination gathered together in a big marquee set up in Taraloka's beautiful grounds to listen to a series of talks and guided meditations led by Vajradevi on the theme of the Satipatthana Sutta.

Reflecting on the theme of the weekend Vajradevi said: "When we’re mindful and present to what’s happening – both ‘internally’ and ‘externally’ – our responses become steady, wise, and confident. Whatever we’re doing, whether we’re meditating, working, communicating, or singing, becomes a vehicle to ‘grow’ awareness. Mindfulness becomes panoramic and we live with immediacy and creativity."

Milarepa: Inspiration From the Lineage Retreat (1 of 6)

Mon, 26 Sep, 2022 - 00:00
This is the first of six informal talks by Saddhanandi exploring themes from one of Milarepa’s Songs: The Song of Self-Examination, found in the Chapter’ Meeting Rechunga’ one of Milarepa’s female disciples. The song offers an uncompromising criterion for the spiritual life: endurance of hardships, renunciation of ‘nature lands’ property, friends and lovers; and a willingness to follow the instructions of a Guru. Saddhanandi discusses the themes using extracts from Sangharakshita’s seminars on other Songs of Milarepa. Talk One: Life of Milarepa An introduction to Milarepa and the opening talk to a week-long retreat at Taraloka in 2022 based around Milarepa’s teachings. Also highlights the significance of Milarepa within the history of Triratna and Bhante’s engagement with his own disciples.

Fri, 23 Sep, 2022 - 00:00
Stories are powerful - they speak to parts of ourselves that respond to symbols, patterns and truths about human life that are deeper and far beyond our rational experience. Through the medium of stories Danayutta, Kavaradhi and Kavyamani explore the themes and motifs from the life of the Buddha, as well as the life stories of his disciples, monastic and lay, female and male, rich and poor. Reflecting on these stories they explore their relevance for our own Dharma lives. These stories were recorded on retreat at Taraloka in 2022. In this third talk: Kavyamani begins by introducing The Theragatha, the poems or verses of the first Buddhist nuns. She then proceeds to focus on the inspirational story of just one of these nuns: Bhada.
