Below is a statement from the Preceptors’ College making clear our position on sex between preceptors and those they ordain. 

In response to the current discussions about our history, we in the College of Public Preceptors wish to state clearly our position on sexual relations between Preceptors and those they ordain. Recognising the difficulties that have arisen in the past, it has long been our position that sexual contact between teachers and their students is undesirable.

Ensuring the sexual, physical and psychological safety of young people and vulnerable adults is an expression of the First Precept: avoiding causing harm; cultivating loving kindness.

Mindful of their responsibilities in this area, over the last four years Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly has been developing its model policies for the protection of children and ‘vulnerable adults’, sent to every Triratna Centre and enterprise in Europe, and also shared with Triratna Centres around the world.

Triratna model ethical guidelines

Here are the model ethical guidelines for Triratna centres and enterprises worldwide, which were presented at the International Council and European Chairs’ Assembly in August and September.

As ‘model’ documents, they are a suggested form of words which may be adopted just as they are, adapted or translated into other languages.

They have been published along with the latest version of Triratna’s model documents for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
