The first knock

I was already late. And it was hot. Very hot. Indian hot. The adrenaline had taken me so far but now my legs were palpably wobbling as I approached the last bend before my destination. The hasty bowl of muesli rumbled restlesslessly in my stomach, rising and falling as the urge to vomit repeatedly came and subsided… Hold it together man…

A doorstep into the unknown...

Sooo… I’ve just started a six-week fundraising appeal in London with these wonderful people (Mike, Declan, Chris, Ramesh Babar, Vajragupta, and Kusaladevi Spence)! We’re going to be raising money for an amazing charity called Karuna which helps to transform the lives of individuals and communities affected by the tyrannical caste system in India and Nepal. 

We’ve all now arrived and are settling into community we’ll be living in together. For most of us, this is the first time we’ve done anything like this...

The phrase “the hardest thing I’d ever have done” is often used to describe appeals. It’s true – I’ve never done something as completely challenging and engaging on every level.

The hardest person for me to meet on the appeal has turned out to be myself. I love meeting strangers; I’m hungry for the connection and I find it much easier to hold rejection from others lightly. Facing up to the everyday ways I’m making my own life harder though is terrifying.
