Big Changes to Funding Movement Projects in India

By Centre Team on Thu, 13 Jan, 2022 - 12:05

As you may have seen in the news, the past few weeks have seen major changes affecting the NGO sector in India. More than 150 large Indian charities, including at least one of our Triratna Trusts, have had their permission to receive foreign funding revoked by the Indian Government.

Most significantly, TBMSG Pune has had its foreign contributions permission removed. This is one of the main trusts supporting Triratna social projects in India. It employs 67 staff, mostly Mitras and...

By Candradasa on Sun, 17 Oct, 2021 - 23:57

The Buddhist Centre Online will be ten years old at the end of 2022. It’s been an amazing journey building an online platform for Triratna—and FutureDharma has been with us all the way.

So I’m delighted to welcome the FutureDharma team to the site for a special focus on their renewing vision. Over the next two weeks you’ll be hearing about the best of their work and their plans for the next few years, that will help bring the Dharma to tens of thousands...

Gypsy Education in Hungary in Crisis

By Sadayasihi on Wed, 18 Jul, 2018 - 14:47

Hungarian gypsies, known as the Roma community, have a deep connection with the Dalits of India. Both communities are segregated, unable to get access to education or employment, and are treated like lesser humans.  Just like the Indian Dharma Revolution gave a voice to the Dalits and inspired a mass human rights movement, the Hungarian branch of the Triratna Community has developed the ‘Jai Bhim Network’.  The Dr Ambedkar High School in Miskolc, Northern Hungary, is run by the...

Sangharakshita's diary

Sthanashraddha is Bhante’s secretary. He writes from AdhisthanaUK:

“As we come to the end of May, Adhisthana has become quite steamy. What with the hot summery weather and then the last few days of heavy showers and thunderstorms the air is humid and the hills have disappeared in a white haze of moisture. Having said all that, it’s been a glorious time for the gardens and gardening. Many new plants have gone in and now they...

Day 8 report from the ECA summer meeting

By Munisha on Tue, 25 Jul, 2017 - 15:32

Here in Suffolk, UK, days come and go, the rain pours down, the duck family continues to parade around (see previous report), and the Chairs are still meditating, doing puja, chatting, walking and listening to presentations and small groups.

They’ve looked at the work of Triratna’s Translations Board; members of the College and Adhisthana Kula have visited to explain the work they’re doing to address painful aspects of Triratna’s past; and the ECA’s Safeguarding officer, Munisha, has...

Triratna translations bonanza!

By Munisha on Mon, 13 Mar, 2017 - 10:06

Suvannavira is a member of the Triratna Translations Board and lives in Moscow.

He writes:

The Triratna Translations Board came into existence at the end of 2015, to promote and co-ordinate translations and publications projects. One of our tasks has been to administer funds made available for translations by Bhante Sangharakshita, following his hugely successful 90th birthday appeal in 2015.

Of the £30,000 given for translating his books, £5,000 went to projects in India and the remaining £25,000 was given to projects elsewhere in the...

Triratna Translations Board invites applications for money

By Munisha on Tue, 18 Oct, 2016 - 23:23

The Triratna Translations Board came into existence last year, to administer new funds made available by Sangharakshita following his 90th birthday appeal. Now inviting applications (deadline 31st October), they write:

“Have you ever heard of Kumarajiva, the 4th century monk who did a tremendous amount of work translating the Dharma into Chinese? For 12 years he led a team of monks and scholars with whom he accomplished the translation of the founding texts of the Great Vehicle, checking the translation of every single word...
