The Buddhist Centre Online Highlights from 2021

By Centre Team on Sun, 26 Dec, 2021 - 12:58

2021 has been another rollercoaster of a year: with the three of the traditional ‘four sights’ of old age, sickness and death an ever present backdrop. But 2021 has also been interspersed with moments of beauty, generosity, connectedness and hope.

Our team has been busy this year keeping the fourth sight—the Dharma—alive; fostering community—sangha—at a time of continued uncertainty.

Looking back over the year, here are some of our highlights from the year that was 2021:

Direct Action Meditations and the Dharma

By Maitrisiddhi on Thu, 9 May, 2019 - 12:49

I’m passionate about the Dharma, including the wisdom perspective. I’m passionate about spreading the Dharma. As well as spending the last ten years of my life in service to Taraloka, I’ve also started up West Wales Buddhist Group, in Aberystwyth, where we’re growing a lively sangha. I’m passionate about Maitreya, my yidam - Bodhisattva of Metta and Buddha of the Future - who meditates at the city gates, in the middle of the world, not in a quiet cave somewhere....

UK Buddhists call for fossil fuel divestment

By Munisha on Mon, 4 Apr, 2016 - 23:26

On 28th February, two British Triratna Buddhists and six from Gaia House (working together in the Dharma Action Network for Climate Engagement) carried out a small protest action at the Wellcome Collection in London.

Yogaratna writes: “The Wellcome Trust does excellent work funding medical research, but has large investments in fossil fuel corporations. Since fossil fuel extraction is exacerbating climate change, which is very harmful to human health, we were calling on the Trust to...

More Triratna climate change actions

By Munisha on Wed, 9 Dec, 2015 - 11:43

Continuing our Triratna News mini-series marking the COP21 climate change talks in Paris, more news of climate change actions from around the Triratna world.

Dublin Buddhist Centre, in Ireland, released their Statement on Human-Caused Global Warming today. Last week, we hear, Triratna individuals were among those staging a ritual inside the British Museum, as part of the Art, not Oil coalition’s opposition to BP’s (British Petroleum) sponsorship of several British arts institutions.

And what of the marches?...

What is DANCE?

What is DANCE?

By Munisha on Fri, 15 May, 2015 - 12:00

Dharma Action Network for Climate Engagement (DANCE) is a “space for connecting to explore the breadth of possible Dharma responses to climate change and related issues.”

Originating with Gaia House, in Devon, UK, a centre connected with the Insight Meditation tradition, its publicity does not yet reflect awareness of BAM (which is growing but not yet that well known). Maybe nearby Triratna sanghas would like to make contact.

Find DANCE on Facebook.
