Ordination in New Zealand

By ratnavyuha on Sun, 20 Mar, 2022 - 18:42

Dear friends,

I am delighted to announce that the former Brian Moreton was publicly ordained today at the Thames Buddhist Centre.

He becomes Karunalata (the second and third ’a’ are long as in “father”), a Sanskrit name meaning ‘he who is a firebrand of compassion‘.

His private preceptor is Guhyasiddhi and his public preceptor is myself

with Metta,

Ratnavyuha

Reviewing How The Preceptors' College Works

By saddhaloka on Mon, 4 Dec, 2017 - 14:09

The College of Public Preceptors has been growing and its make-up is changing. By next year we could have 45 active members, and it will inevitably continue to grow as the movement expands and more public preceptors are needed. Many of the founding generation still in the College have been coming together in all sorts of meetings and gatherings for 40 years. Quite a number of them are now approaching 70, or are already into their 70s. We...

Parami, Lokeshvara and Saddhaloka In Conversation

By parami on Sat, 18 Mar, 2017 - 15:08

A new podcast from some members of the Adhisthana Kula as they come to the end of a 10-day meeting of the College.

A great little summary of some of the more general issues discussed, including those arising from historical controversies in Triratna (formerly the FWBO). We get a little taster of other conversations to come - with news of new media, and of prospective reconciliation possibilities within the wider community.

What emerges is a picture of the College at a...

Dhammarati on Sikkha - a new project to review and develop training in the system of practice

By dhammamegha on Mon, 30 May, 2016 - 18:24

I recently interviewed Dhammarati about an emerging project about the system of training in Triratna. It goes by the name of Sikkha (with a long a), which is a Pali word meaning ‘spiritual training’. It is about deepening our understanding of what and how we practice and teach within the Triratna community, and developing an explicit shared framework to talk about it.

Here, Dhammarati reflects on what is essential in Buddhist practice: a growth of awareness which leads to positive and rich emotion and a move away...
