Fund-raising for Suryavana

From Suryavana Retreat Centre on Thu, 13 Mar, 2025 - 16:23

Hi all. I was meditating this morning and perhaps as a consequence of a conversation yesterday with a friend back in the UK it occurred to me to send out this message.

Suryavana Retreat Centre was heroically purchased by the Valencia Buddhist Centre back in 2016. We are approaching our 10th year and are now an independent project and running as best we can with myself and my partner onsite, managing and maintaining the retreat centre and programme. With help of...

We Are All Looking for the Light (Dharmabytes Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 13 Mar, 2025 - 10:00

Flowers naturally grow towards the light. The more we open to our true potential the more we open to the light of truth, of love, and of awareness. Our potential to grow is inherent in our very being. Here, Suryagupta shares reflections on verses from the Flowers chapter of the Dhammapada, or ‘Way of Truth’. Excerpted from the talk entitled How Flowers Teach the Way to Enlightenment given at London Buddhist Centre as part...

Pointing to the Moon, led by Tejananda with Advayasiddhi
A home retreat on working with self-view.

Reserve your place here

Friday 2nd May - Thursday 8th May

The well-known metaphor of ‘a finger pointing at the moon’ is itself a hint at something essential in Dharma practice. It suggests ‘don’t mistake the finger for the moon’.  But what is the moon, and what is the finger? The finger could be taken as whatever gets us looking and going in the ‘right’ direction. For...

Fathers Retreat: The Creative Mind

From Community Highlights on Wed, 12 Mar, 2025 - 14:49

The characteristics of the creative mind are the opposite of those of the reactive mind… The creative mind loves where there is no reason to love, is happy where there is no reason for happiness, creates where there is no possibility of creativity, and in this way ‘builds a heaven in hell’s despair’.
Sangharakshita – Mind Reactive, Mind Creative

It is through awareness that we move from the reactive mind to the creative mind, from Samsara to Nirvana. On this retreat, we will explore how we can...

The Aware Mind Is the Happy Mind

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 12 Mar, 2025 - 00:00
In this talk Vadanya explores how paying attention to reality - rather than mental or media noise - can bring our life alive and give us a vivid experience of beauty. But is "being here now" enough to bring real happiness? Or do we need a deeper idea of the meaning of awareness?

A Buddhist Perspective On World Problems

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 12 Mar, 2025 - 00:00
We are continually being bombarded with news about world problems including war, starvation, violence, inequality, climate destruction etc. One response is to just ignore these problems. Sangharakshita argues that ‘an attitude of withdrawal from public concerns to purely personal ones is not worthy of a human being’. As part of our Sangha night theme on living with awareness, Vimaladasa will be exploring how we as Buddhists can bring a voice of sanity and compassion into the world and act accordingly.
