Connections with the USA

From Community Highlights on Fri, 27 Mar, 2026 - 16:36

Even whilst living in Kalimpong, India, Sangharakshita developed connections with the United States of America, both literary and Buddhist. Over later decades he made several trips to the USA. In this latest Urgyen House video blog Manjuvajra explores that history and uncovers Sangharakshita’s connections to the Beat poetry movement and the leading Buddhist teachers and writers in the USA. Apart from his literary appreciation, as he travelled to support the growing Triratna movement he also enjoyed taking photographs...

The Nottingham Buddhist Centre first opened our doors on 12th May 1996, so this year we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the opening! As the current chair, I feel a lot of gratitude for all those who have been involved in our sangha over the years and who have contributed to the Nottingham Buddhist Centre being a thriving place of refuge within the city.

If you have a connection with the centre or sangha and feel drawn to celebrate with us, I’m...

Practice Unfolding in Collective Context (Dharmabytes Podcasts)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 26 Mar, 2026 - 18:23

In this short talk, Sanghamani reflects on the magic of transformation, her mythic connection with her preceptors and with Sangharakshita as a mythic guide. The imperfections of their humanness give her faith in her own process as it unfolds in the context of collective practice. Excerpted from the talk Discipleship, Magic and Myth given at Adhisthana as part of a Women’s Area Order Weekend, 2014.

A Steadfast Gaze In Relation to Others (Dharmabytes Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 26 Mar, 2026 - 18:18

Vajratara explores discipleship as a living, relational practice rooted in faithfulness rather than idealism. Discipleship is presented as a steadfast gaze on what we most deeply value, and a shared understanding of Going for Refuge that orients a whole life and is handed on through friendship, practice, and devotion. Excerpted from the talk entitled The Mysteries of Discipleship: Flowers and Garlands Will Be Placed In Our Hands given at Adhisthana as part of the...

A Word on the Mantrayana

“It is the mantras that do the work, so to speak. Not only do they do the work, but mantras have the effect of shortening the time the bodhisattva or mantrin takes to achieve his or her goal. Indeed, with the help of mantras one may be able to achieve Supreme Perfect Enlightenment within the compass of a single human lifetime, as Milarepa is believed to have done.”

A Personal and Esoteric Welcome For Saraka

From Order Messenger on Wed, 25 Mar, 2026 - 11:38

At the end of the International Convention in Bodhgaya on 30th January 2025, Aryajaya zoomed in through a huge screen to symbolically finish her term as International Order Convenor. As she had no successor to receive them, she handed some symbols of her office – contained in a special white box over to Avalokitesvara. (You can watch the whole event here, around 40 minutes in.)

Fourteen months later, on 19th March 2026, Saraka marked the start of her post by...
