Midwinter music: The Starriness of Things

From Triratna News on Thu, 25 Dec, 2014 - 00:24In this festive season, whatever you are celebrating (or not), let’s hear from Triratna musicians in the northern hemisphere making “a joyful noise unto the Lord”. (Not that Lord.)
Listen to all the music mentioned below.

Joe Richardson is a mitra living in the Scottish Borders. His resonant voice is already known to some of us in his version of the Karaniya Metta Sutta; now he’s set 10 of Sangharakshita’s poems to music and he’d love to...

We're Nearly There! #EthicalChristmas

From Windhorse Evolution on Tue, 23 Dec, 2014 - 11:35Back in September we launched the 100 Days of Ethical Giving and it’s hard to believe that the campaign will end on 25th December.

As the first campaign Evolution has ever run it has been a huge learning curve. We have particularly enjoyed working in collaboration with thebuddhist centre.com team and would like to thank Candradasa for his inspiration and encouragement.

We have appreciated the input and support of...

What will your Christmas be?

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 23 Dec, 2014 - 11:31

What will your Christmas be?

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 23 Dec, 2014 - 11:31t’s a big deal for us in our culture don’t your reckon? Family, Christmas dinner, partying, gift giving and for some an important event in the Christian calendar.

Whilst it doesn’t have any special significance for Buddhists one can still view it as an important cultural celebration; a time when we can open our hearts to others and practice kindness and generosity……

As a meditator I’m interested in staying steady and creative through this period and plotting...

A big thank you for the Buddha Blitz

From Sydney Buddhist Centre on Mon, 22 Dec, 2014 - 21:54The Sydney Buddhist Centre Management Committee and the Buddha Blitz team would like to thank all those who supported the Buddha Blitz.

People gave to the Blitz in many different ways. We raised a magnificent $33,467.80 - and we gained much more!

So we’re expressing our appreciation to the Sangha, not only for any monetary contribution people may have made, but also for the time, energy, skills, expertise, suggestions and goodwill that poured forth so readily right from...

Happy 10th birthday, Akashavana!

From Triratna News on Mon, 22 Dec, 2014 - 17:10In September 2004, Triratna (then the FWBO) became the proud owners of two ruined farmhouses, high in the mountains of Teruel, Spain.

Resident community members Acalavajri and Manigarbha write: “Ten years later, they are home to a thriving community and a remote and beautiful retreat centre: Akashavana, the ‘forest retreat of luminous space’. Primarily for the ordination of women, it also provides an amazing retreat experience for Dharmacharinis.

Over 140 women have had their public ordinations in...

*New* Glasgow's Alternative Friday Night

From Triratna Young Buddhists on Fri, 19 Dec, 2014 - 15:40From Helen Chalmers, in Glasgow:
Start your weekend with something fun, refreshing, social and enriching at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre. The Alternative Friday Night is fortnightly: every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, 7:30pm. An evening of good company, open conversation, a short meditation and plenty cups of tea.
