Throughout June we shall be participating in Buddhist Action Month. Each week we shall focus on one particular way in which we can make a difference in the world using the broad themes of:

Sustainability - the effects of our way of life upon the world.

Compassion for others - how we can offer loving kindness and compassion to those people near and far.

Giving - what we can do to offer money, time, skills or effort to bring about positive change in the world.

Amaraghosha discusses the importance of the outward expression of our devotion, in both rituals and our daily lives, using quotations and personal examples. We explore the profound nature of obeisance to the Buddha, dharma and sangha in this section of the puja. This talk was given at Croydon Buddhist Centre in May 2016 as part of the regular Saturday morning sangha class.

We had a great Sangha evening to launch BAM last wednesday, with three inspiring short talks on issues that have motivated sangha members to give their time and energy on a voluntary basis.  Annette spoke about her work with sex offenders, Nanette about the Severn hospice, and Danasamudra about the India Dhamma Trust. 

So valuable to reflect on how people are putting metta into action in so many ways al over the world.

Dear Friends,

I am writing to inform you of the resignation of Sujvala. I am Sujvala’s public preceptor and a few days ago he came to see me to tell me why he wanted to resign. We had a very friendly conversation. After consulting with Saddhaloka (Sujvala’s private preceptor) I have accepted Sujvala’s resignation from the Order.

Sujvala resides in King’s Lynn, UK, and was ordained at Padmaloka in 2005. We all wish him well in his future endeavors.

The 16 women currently attending the 3-month ordination course will be having their private ordinations at various times throughout the day and night between the evening of Sunday, 29th May and the afternoon of Wednesday, 1st June. 

The public ordination will take place on Saturday, 4th June, starting at 11:00 a.m. local Spanish time.

Avikara Passes Away in New Zealand

Last year Avikara in Wellington, New Zealand was diagnosed with systemic mastocyosis, a cancer of the blood.
 
He had been in the hospice for the last few weeks and died this morning at 10:35 a.m.
 
Varadevi was the last Sangha member to see him, yesterday afternoon. He was asleep when she visited and she said he seemed at peace.
 
He was ordained in 1998 by Sona at Sudarshanaloka retreat centre near...
