It was my birthday, it felt like everything had fallen apart around me and I felt alone and desperate. I’d spent the past few years driving everyone and everything I cared about away and refusing to acknowledge that I was struggling and needed help. Instead I numbed my pain with drugs and alcohol… But that can only work for so long and in the weeks building up to my birthday it wasn’t enough… I didn’t know what else to do...

I thought I’d send you this on this so sad day. Mahamati asked me to write it for when Bhante died. I’ve sent it to Mahamati and Parami in case they want to use it on some occasion. I have re-wrtten it just now. Do use it or pass it on if you think that’s appropriate.

With great sadness we inform you of the passing away of Urgyen Sangharakshita, today, 30th October 2018, at approximately 10 am in Hereford Hospital. He had been diagnosed with pneumonia and this morning the consultant said that he also had sepsis, from which recovery was not possible.

Dear Order members,

Yesterday we informed you that Bhante had been diagnosed with pneumonia. I am very sorry to inform you that this morning the Consultant has said that Bhante has sepsis from which recovery is not possible. Therefore the treatment with antibiotics has been stopped and it is likely that Bhante will die quite soon. He has mostly been sleeping and hardly responsive, and is being given medication to settle him. Paramartha, Suvajra and Sanghadasa are...
