Dear Order members,

We are getting in touch to let you all know that our dear friend Varakhanti is seriously ill. A few weeks ago a routine blood test revealed that she was low in platelets and white blood cells. Her diagnosis has remained uncertain, but she has a leukaemia-like disease that is weakening her and making her vulnerable to infections. For much of this time she has been in hospital in Brighton, which is where she is now.

Dharmacharini Vajradakini who lives in Italy has written to her private preceptor, Dhammadinna, expressing her wish to resign from the Order. Vajradakini was ordained publicly by me some seventeen years ago this month on a women’s ordination retreat at Il Convento, Italy in October 2002.

She and Dhammadinna have been in contact by email and I have had a Skype call with her. I recognise that Vajradakini has come to this decision after considerable thought and...
