Sangharakshita Memorial

Tue, 30 Oct, 2018 - 21:16[edit]

I first met Sangharakshita at the newly established Buddhist Centre at Kemp Town, Brighton in the early 1970’s. It was located in a small detached house not far from the seafront.  There  were less than 10 people there but I could not join the group, because I was on leave from Hong Kong where I lived and worked. Sangharakshita told us he had previously joined the English Sangha Trust, but felt that wearing the Robe would not have been helpful in spreading The Dhamma in the current English social context. ( Some had tried, but had either disrobed or returned to Asia).

After Shrine dedication in Dusseldorf, Germany

It was just three weeks ago I met Banthe. We talked about his latest writings about Islam, about the EBU congress 1991 in Berlin, Ole Nydal, Ayya Khema, and he even remembered when he did the Shrine dedication ceremony for our little group in Dusseldorf, Germany. This was 2007 when this photo was taken.

At the end of your chat there was a knock at the door. I stood up and said...

Gratitude to Bhante

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Tue, 30 Oct, 2018 - 19:49

Our spiritual teacher, Urgyen Sangharakshita has died. I don´t feel sad (at least not now), just immensely grateful for the courageous, intelligent, and generous life he lived. I had the fortune to meet with him just a couple of months ago along with a group of Mexican friends and he was so welcoming, relaxed, and friendly to us. His teachings have created the context for the whole of my life and I will proudly continue to practise and share them to...

Dear sangha,

Here is a video of Bhante’s images that we’ve put together at clear vision as an offering for this time.

You may want to project it at your centre or group, or just watch it at home while chanting some mantras, doing puja or however you’ll mark our teachers death.

Metta to you all, it is hard to know what to say.

What bhante meant to me

What bhante meant to me

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Tue, 30 Oct, 2018 - 17:59

It was my birthday, it felt like everything had fallen apart around me and I felt alone and desperate. I’d spent the past few years driving everyone and everything I cared about away and refusing to acknowledge that I was struggling and needed help. Instead I numbed my pain with drugs and alcohol… But that can only work for so long and in the weeks building up to my birthday it wasn’t enough… I didn’t know what else to do...

Sevenfold Puja for Bhante Sangharakshita

I thought I’d send you this on this so sad day. Mahamati asked me to write it for when Bhante died. I’ve sent it to Mahamati and Parami in case they want to use it on some occasion. I have re-wrtten it just now. Do use it or pass it on if you think that’s appropriate.
