Dharmabyte: Uninterrupted Flow of Spontaneous Transcendental States

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 29 Aug, 2019 - 14:00

Why did the Buddha compare the The Dharma-Vinaya having the taste of freedom with the great ocean having the taste of salt? It’s about the direct experience of the qualities of enlightenment. The Dharma-vinaya is an uninterrupted spontaneous flow of spiritual and transcendental states. That flow may crystallise into certain teachings, but should not be identified with it.

Just as the mighty ocean has but one taste, the taste of salt, even so the Dharma-vinaya (Buddhism) has but one taste, the taste...

Make Your Own Sandals

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 28 Aug, 2019 - 00:00
Satyajyoti gives a talk on Ksanti, the patient forbearance that is the true antidote to anger and ill-will. She shares Santideva's advice on learning to endure pain and discomfort so we can respond with an attitude of love in difficult circumstances. Exploring common causes of anger and resentment, Satyajyoti also shares her own experience of working with these states and developing ksanti. We don't need to cover the whole earth in leather; like sandals that protect our soles, by practicing ksanti we can meet situations with patience and kindness everywhere we go. Part 6 in the 'Path to Awakening' Sangha night series at Sheffield Buddhist Centre. Points for reflection and discussion: How could practicing ksanti bring more joy to a particular situation in your life? Can hatred ever pacify hatred, or is it true that only love brings peace? Read chapter 6 'Ksanti' of the condensed Bodhicaryavatara (available on the Sangha Night section of the website at the time this talk was uploaded) to accompany this week's talk. Recorded at Sheffield Buddhist Centre 27.08.19

Transforming Self - Ratnaguna (VIDEO)

Transforming Self - Ratnaguna (VIDEO)

From Triratna International Gathering 2019: Alchemy of the Dharma on Tue, 27 Aug, 2019 - 11:25

A wonderful first talk of the 2019 International Gathering, whose theme is ‘Alchemy of the Dharma’. The utterly delightful Ratnaguna takes us through the true miracle of transforming ourselves via the magic of a practice in which we also learn to let ourselves change.

This is a beautiful, reflective, funny take on the challenges of the Dharma life. Ratnaguna’s breadth of reference is itself a joy: taking in Greek philosophy, Hans Christian Andersen, and writings on the nearness of death to life...

Sanghamani with a great second talk from the 2019 Triratna International Gathering. Her theme on this Alchemy of the Dharma weekend is how we can transform ourselves in order to transform our communities. And she leads with fearlessness in discussing her own work and practice in this regard.

As a fundraiser at the cutting edge of the practice of connection – trying to forge a sense of mutually vital relationship with strangers (who are not necessarily pleased to find you at their...
