Dispelling Distraction

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 25 Sep, 2019 - 00:00
Moksatara and Maitrivasin share a talk on meditation, solitude and 'the supreme mystery'. Moksatara expounds the Bodhicaryavatara's teaching on hindrances to solitude, explaining how solitude can remove distractions and refine the pleasure we experience in meditation. Maitrivasin then explores approaches to the metta bhavana, sharing his personal experiences of walking in the shoes of others and developing empathy which is insight into the interconnectedness of all beings. Part 9 in the 'Path to Awakening' Sangha night series at Sheffield Buddhist Centre. Points for reflection and discussion: Would spending some time in solitude or on retreat benefit you? Could the 'supreme mystery' of exchanging self and other be part of your metta bhavana meditation? Read chapter 8 'Meditation' of the condensed Bodhicaryavatara (available on the Sangha Night section of the website at the time this talk was uploaded) to accompany this week's talk. Recorded at Sheffield Buddhist Centre 24.09.19

No More Comparison | Urban Retreat 2019

From London Buddhist Centre on Wed, 25 Sep, 2019 - 00:00
The second of five talks Exploring the five archetypal Buddha’s. Each talk in the series will draw out the wisdom of each of the Buddha’s to help us explore how we can make it applicable to our everyday lives. In this talk, Prajnamanas describes the wisdom of Ratnasambhava and explores how we can use his wisdom to notice how painful it is to compare ourselves in anyway with others and how true wisdom will take us beyond that. Ratnasambhava is also known as the Buddha of beauty and so Prajnamanas explores that here too. Part of the London Buddhist Centre's 2019 Urban Retreat.

Celebrating the Conversion of Ambedkar to Buddhism, and the start of the Dhamma Revolution in India

Celebrating the Conversion of Ambedkar to Buddhism, and the start of the Dhamma Revolution in India

From India Dhamma Trust: "At the heart of a peaceful Dhamma Revolution" on Mon, 23 Sep, 2019 - 21:18

14 October commemorates the day in 1956 when 400 000 people embraced Buddhism in India, leaving behind social injustice and entering into a Buddhist path of practice.  The man behind this momentous occasion was the great social reformer Dr Ambedkar.  Having tried social and political action to remove inequality in society, he believed that the Buddhist path itself was the key to a powerful and peaceful social revolution.
