Triratna News recently reported from the 16th Shakyadhita conference, held in the Blue Mountains, Australia in June. This conference was attended by Kusalacitta (Australia) and Karunadeepa and Tarahridaya (India) and here we publish their full reports.

Shakyadhita (‘Daughters of the Buddha’) is the international association of Buddhist women. Over the years a number of Dharmacharinis have attended its conferences.

Dharmamodini was also present, running the stall for Bodhi Books and Gifts, Triratna’s shop in Sydney.

Generation X Dharma Teachers' Conference 2019 this weekend

The 2019 Generation X Dharma Teachers’ Conference takes place this weekend at Great Vow Zen Monastery in Oregon, USA.

This year those attending this biennial North American conference include three members of the Triratna Buddhist Order: Candradasa from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA; Vimalasara from Vancouver, Canada and Singhasri, an American who lives London, UK.

There’s no conference website but the attached booklet gives all details of the programme and those attending from a wide variety of Buddhist traditions in North America. The main topic is ethics,...

European Buddhist Union Conference 2018 - call for papers
“Spreading wisdom and compassion in European societies”

The European Buddhist Union (EBU, www.europeanbuddhism.org) organises a conference event every 2 years. Following the “Buddhism in Action” conference in Berlin in 2016, there will be the another such event in April 2018.

The theme of the conference event is “Spreading wisdom and compassion in European societies”, with their specific socio-political, cultural and economic features.

Women of Faith: International Women's Day at BMAG -1

Samachitta, until recently Chair of Triratna’s Birmingham Buddhist Centre, spoke at an International Women’s Day interfaith event at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) on 10th March 2016.

Here’s the text of her talk, ‘Women who have inspired me’ in which she talks about the Buddha’s aunt Mahaprajapati, Dipa Ma and Triratna’s own Maitrisara, Birmingham’s mitra convenor for women - whose picture currently appears next to a Triratna kesa in BMAG’s exhibition ‘Faith in Birmingham’.

Friendship as the future of Buddhism: talk to European Buddhist Union conference: 'Buddhism in Action'

Hosted by the European Buddhist Union, this last weekend saw a gathering in Berlin of 50-90 Buddhists of many traditions, from over 15 countries across Europe, east and west. See pictures and responses to the weekend.

A full programme of talks and practice workshops offered a rather amazing view of the diversity of European Buddhism – as well as many common elements and themes: ageing sanghas, leadership succession questions, successful youth work…

The first - What is Triratna? - is a talk I gave to the European Buddhist Union in Berlin in September 2015.

The second - Triratna in the Buddhist world - was given to Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly (ECA) in January 2016.
